Freedom Farms Vista
Hi, my name is Tara! I went to school at California State University, Chico. I got my Bachelors degree from the College of Agriculture in Animal Science. I worked as a marine mammal trainer and animal care specialist for 7 years with dolphins. I spent the next 3 years maintaining health and medical records for those animals.
My family and I moved into our 1.2 acre home in Vista, CA (Growing Zone 10a) about 4 years ago. In that time, I have added 35 fruit trees to the property, expanded the garden, built a chicken coop and got birds, acquired goats, learned to milk them and turn the milk into amazing products, keep bees, can and preserve the things I grow, compost kitchen scraps, yard clippings, and animal poop to feed the plants, volunteer at my kids’ school garden, drive tractors at the Carlsbad Flower Fields for the Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum, got a certificate from Cornell University in Medicinal Plants, and started my homestead and urban farm Freedom Farms Vista! This has been quite a journey so far! 😅
If I had told 19 year old, animal loving, beach bum me that this was where I would be almost 20 years later, I probably would have laughed at myself in disbelief! But here I am! Trying to live my best life enjoying my animals and being outside whenever possible! Any questions and/or comments, don’t hesitate to ask! Reach out and tell me what you are looking for! Is it cute animal photos and videos? Garden inspiration or tips? Recipes from the garden? Homestead help? Or maybe you are just interested in farm fresh eggs from the happiest hens in Vista, let me know!
